Having fun with the functionalhand®!
The functionalhand® complements many commercially available toys. What makes it unique? When compared to other universal cuffs, it accommodates all shapes and sizes. Simply open the cord, insert the tool, cinch the strap tightly and go! Many children with motor difficulties, hold their marker or paintbrush by turning the thumb side of their hand downward in what is described as a pronated position with wrist flexion. Over time, this can cause deformity of the forearm, wrist and hand. As therapists, we believe alignment is important. Below we wanted to share a few toys clients have paired with the functionalhand. It allows individuals to move and participate in good alignment while supporting their motor skills.
The time classic Magna Doodle. Whether you are drawing, playing a game or practicing writing letters, the Magna Doodle and functionalhand® pair nicely for play or academics.
The Chenille Kraft Wood Knob Paint Brush has a round end which is safer than a long, pointed end paintbrush. Positioned in the functionalhand, paired with a Melissa and Doug paint book, it supports both painting and learning.
The Water Drawing Mat is another activity to enjoy while sitting outside on a nice day. The tools included in the package fit nicely into the functionalhand®. You can also secure a sponge or paintbrush. It comes with stencils or have fun creating your own design.
There are many toys and activities our friends have enjoyed. We will continue to share our ideas with you. We are not endorsing or promoting these products. Our mission is to put the FUN into function! What is your favorite activity with the functionalhand®? Post your pictures on our Instagram or facebook pages at functionalhand.com or email to lmerry@thera-solutions.com and we’ll post them for everyone to see.
